Kew Wood Course 07

Just had a week at Kew Gardens doing a wood anatomy course. Learnt alot and met some really interesting people working in the same field!! Overall a fantastic experience.

Some of the wood reference collection, stored in compactus at 12 degrees. Most have their original labels some of the Eucalypts were collected by Ferdinand von Mueller and have his spidery handwriting on them.

The lake in front of the Palm House.

Inside the Kew Herbarium - the nerve centre of world botany

Gulls on the frozen lake!

It snowed! For just one morning the world was fresh and new - and i met the snow!

But the next day the Daffodils were blooming! I don't understand the weather here - at least Melbourne is consistent - every season in every day.

After the course I met up with the Girls from Sheffield. Anna, Gina, Tatianna, Lachi and Saki all had a brief holiday in London.

Covent Garden

St Paul's Cathedral

And the amazing sushi train - how fun is that! What a week. Now the realtive peace and quiet of Sheffield.

Hey Bronzey!!!

Love the blog - your are officially linked on FEMBOTanist. Looks like you are having a great time...

I really hope I can visit mid year for a super week in Sheffield... heres hoping i can convince botany to pay for a round the world ticket, which is actually cheaper than a return flight to Chicago for the Botany conference.
